I was lead-singer of several successful bands, including; Smoke City, Zeep, Shrift and Arkestra 1 and Da Lata. She wrote the following to describe the video below which is one of four mixes based on the original song titled The Cage from her album titled Freedom of Movement.
Thank you to all the contributos to making this music and film. It all started from an epiphany with 'Meatloaf' on the road, singing down to me, kindly from a cloud, when I was feeling shit. But just look where it lead me, and who it introduced me to along the way, out of piss-puddles soar rainbows!

The Indies Network would like to give more tribute to the late great soul singer Charles Bradley with a song he recorded for Mr. Jukes' debut album titled God First. Charles Bradley passed away on September 23, 2017, just months after Mr. Jukes album was released.
Just below is the animated music video to Track #5 titled Grant Green, which is a mix of samples from jazz guitar great Grant Green's recording of the James Brown penned song titled Ain't It Funky Now. Mr. Jukes brought in Charles Bradley to sing atop his mix and the result is awesome and something that both Grant Green and James Brown would love.
This stellar music video and animation was produced by Strange Beast and was directed Anna Ginsburg and Parallel Teeth.
Hear some tasty live performances of Mr. Jukes with a full live band, horn section, background vocalists and more, performing songs from his debut album on The Indies Network's Live Music Television at this link: LiveMusicTelevision.com/2017/11/mr-jukes-live-at-the-church.html
Connect direct with the official legacy website of James Brown at JamesBrown.Com
Unfortunately, Grant Green died before the advent of the Internet as we know it and there are no official websites for Grant Green, except for a page at Blue Note Records, here: BlueNote.com/artists/grant-green
The Indies is proud to present some of the latest live takes of a serious indie band known as Le Butcherettes. The band was formed in 2007 in Guadalajara, Mexico, by Teri Gender Bender (born Teresa Suaréz) and drummer Auryn Jolene.
The videos below were filmed for the ongoing Ring Road Live Sessions and were excellently directed and edited by Alejandro Herrera. The stellar audio engineer was Marvin Zenarosa. Bravo!

Here is a act of substance out of Austin that we somehow never noticed until today. His name is Nakia and he has been around and has been paying his dues diligently. He has a whole story on the about page of his website.
I like this first live take video below and how director Jonathan Jackson captures, for the first few moments before the music begins, the vibe of the The Sahara Lounge, a music venue in Far East Austin, Texas. Appropriate for a song where Nakia shows off an undeniable Austin sound. Pieces and Castles was written by Nakia and Barry Goldberg, and produced in association with Johnny Lee Schell.
Nakia - Pieces And Castles
The next live take below was recorded during a Music Fog Marathon at Threadgill's during SXSW a few years back. Can't help but think of Joe Cocker a little bit.
Nakie - Parachute
And, here is one final live take that is a little reminicent of Chet Baker's vocal styling... Nakia sits down for for a recording filmed by Ehud Lazin with One On One during the Outlaw Roadshow.
Nakia - Get Hercules
A big kudos and thank you to Music Fog, Jonathan Jackson of One Point Pictures and Ehud Lazin of One On One for filming the above clips so well and making them available.
Below are beautiful songs and music videos by the trio known as London Grammar from their debut album titled If You Wait. The frontwoman of the act, Hannah Reid, who stands in front of the mic (with zero hype, pomp or circumstance) and simply sings, is the best thing since Sade. Enjoy!
Please click the play button on the first video below, pick the high-resolution
& fullscreen options and kick back. At the conclusion of the
first video, the 2nd, 3rd & 4th videos will continue playing automatically, followed by hours of handpicked music videos if you choose to let it roll.
The-Indies is proud to present Dawn Mitschele, a very tasty singer/songwriter and guitarist. She's a true indie, organic, uncontrived artist without an ounce of hype. She has traveled, busked and performed around the world with love that radiates a certain purity and authenticism that is rare.
Dawn Mitschele - Soldier (Shot and Edited by Mike Hacker in various spots around NYC: Chelsea Market Passage of the High Line, The Grizzly Pear bar on MacDougal Street, and on Minetta Street in Greenwich Village)
Dawn Mitschele - The Queen (On the streets and doorways in the 20th arrondissement of Paris - Directed by John McNulty)
From her 5 song EP, "Love Remains."
Dom La Nena performs to a packed house in Lisbon Portugal
For the last year or so, the cellist/songwriter/singer and touring artist named Dom La Nena has been no stranger on my trail of posts listed at the end of this entry. It has been lovely to follow her international travels where she has been so well received quite literally everywhere. Just read the piece on her that Jim Fusilli at The Wall St. Journal recently wrote about her in the January 9, 2014 Life & Culture section. (click here to read).
She is well deserving of much more exposure in my opinion because her songs are so very beautiful along with the fact that she has really paid her dues in terms of personally honing her craft and original songwriting. She is a real artist not put together by the Hollywood hype machine. She is super organic, unmanufactured and a true artist. Dom La Nena is breath of fresh air.
The two videos below are different takes of the same song, and original by Dom La Nena titled Canção Boba. The first take was shot in the streets of Fez, Morocco. It was shot by Dom La Nena's videographer (her husband, according to the Wall St. Journal) who gets credit only as Jeremiah with support from Mathieu Mastin and Renaud Duguet. Dom La Nena is one of my favorite emerging organic artists making her way around the international scene.
Dom La Nena - Canção Boba (on the streets of Fez, Morocco)
This version and official music video for Canção Boba was filmed in the Jardin des Tuileries of Paris, France. It too was filmed by Jeremiah.
Here is a great performance by Nneka on French TV where she delivers a fantastic performance of one of her songs titled Heartbeat, followed by a interview where she discusses her music and her life.
